From Left to Right: Andrea Dell’Isola, Laura Wisse, Marianne Granbom, Sara Hultqvist
Laura Wisse – I am an associate professor at the Unit of Diagnostic Radiology at IKVL, Faculty of Medicine. I have my own research group, the medial temporal lab, but I am also part of the BioFINDER group. My research focuses on neuroimaging in ageing and neurodegenerative diseases, with a specific focus on the region of the medial temporal lobe, and aims to contribute to diagnosis, prognosis and clinical trial design for the different dementias. While my main focus is on neuroimaging, my approach is translational and interdisciplinary, to prevent pathological ageing. I look forward to zooming out further and advancing Proactive Ageing from a more holistic approach with other members of the profile area.
Marianne Granbom – I am an associate professor at the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine and Head of the Active and Healthy Ageing research group. I am affiliated with the Centre for Ageing and Supportive Environments (CASE). I do research on housing and health in later life and am extra interested in how the living environment influences active ageing and wellbeing among people who have a socio-economic or health-related vulnerability. For example, I have studied how low-income older adults in East Baltimore, U.S, reason and plan for future care needs and housing, and how everyday life of older adults in disadvantaged areas in Sweden is influenced by crime and disorder. Most of my work is interdisciplinary, and I look forward to further cross-disciplinary discussions within Proactive Ageing.
Sara Hultqvist – I am an associate professor at the School of Social Work, Faculty of Social Sciences. I am affiliated with CASE. My research interest is in social policy and those broad welfare institutions that all citizens encounter sooner or later in life, for example, health insurance, pensions, and eldercare. These are welfare arrangements aiming at providing economic and social safety for individuals. Mostly, my research perspective focuses on policy in practice, that is, how political reform becomes lived experience among users and welfare workers carrying out these arrangements. I look forward to continuing to work in a transdisciplinary way, learning from other epistemologies and promoting a social perspective in Proactive Ageing.
Andrea Dell’Isola – I am an associate professor at the Clinical Epidemiology Unit at the Faculty of Medicine. My research interests lie in the epidemiology and management of osteoarthritis, with a specific focus on the impact that multimorbidity has on the development, progression, and management of osteoarthritis. I am currently leading a project funded by the Swedish Research Council, focusing on how obesity, hypertension, and diabetes influence osteoarthritis disease pathways and care. My research is often interdisciplinary, bringing together epidemiology, medicine, and patient perspectives. I am excited to be a member of Proactive Ageing and eager to collaborate with colleagues in this field to push the boundaries of my research and contribute to innovative solutions for ageing populations.
Proactive ageing is more than its steering board. It is a growing, interdisciplinary community of researchers, educators, and collaborators across Lund University who are committed to rethinking how we age. With members from seven faculties—including medicine, engineering, social sciences, law, and the arts—the profile area brings together diverse expertise to address ageing from every angle. This collective effort reflects the belief that ageing is not just a medical or social issue, but a complex, lifelong process that touches all aspects of life.
